HyBrick by Michelmersh is a worlds’ first. Although not available at commercial scale, it is a global flagship physical study to replace natural gas with hydrogen in brick manufacturing. Some of the very first bricks fired by Hydrogen are on display in our London Design Centre!

Eco Brick

The eco-brick range, by Wienerberger, reduces the depth of the brick from 102.5mm to 65mm. The result is less material, up to 31% less embodied carbon, more space for insulation, and the same robust and long-lasting exterior.

Stone Bricks

Better Brick, by Polcor, is made by cutting off-cuts from industrial stone quarries. As the process is purely cutting the stone, up to 45% less carbon is embodied in the material than with clay bricks. The module size can vary, and as they are load bearing, mortar is not necessary, but can be used for aesthetics.

Carbon Negative Bricks – Pirrouet

Instead of being fired in kilns, Pirouett bricks from Vandersanden are cured in airtight, CO2-filled climate chambers for 48 hours. Using waste products from the steel industry and just 20% primary raw materials, the bricks are made through a process whereby carbon dioxide is permanently bound to calcium. Per metric ton of bricks, 60 kg of CO2 is captured and stored.
