Mount Pleasant Hostel - EH Smith

Mount Pleasant Hostel

London

This 50-bed hostel for vulnerable people in the Hatton Garden conservation area comprises en-suite accommodation, communal areas and tree-lined courtyard.

The design is sensitive to the historical context. The original building on the site, which occupies a narrow London lane called Mount Pleasant, was locally listed but there was a possibility it could be removed to make way for the new facility. The architects argued for it to be retained and adapted to meet modern requirements.

EH Smith worked with the Architects and Contractor to select appropriate facing bricks for the scheme.
