Cadence

Kings Cross

“We’ve created a new language of brick arches and vaulted spaces that echo the exuberant architecture of King’s Cross and St Pancras stations” – Alison Brooks

Cadence is a landmark mixed-use building within the King’s Cross Central Masterplan, one of Europe’s largest urban regeneration projects.  Comprising 113 dwellings and 50 affordable apartments above two stories of commercial, social and service spaces Comprising 113 dwellings and 50 affordable apartments above two stories of commercial, social and service spaces.

The red handmade brick archways define the façade of the scheme, but they were incredibly complex to achieve! The scheme was delivered with a pre-cast façade by Explore, part of Laing O’Rourke, which meant hundreds of different types of special shaped brick were required to achieve the complex geometry and provide a mechanical key for the precast. Working with the project team we advised on suitable brick options, developed the special shapes required and co-ordinated the production, cutting and delivery of the bricks to the Explore factory.
