Birmingham Conservatoire - EH Smith

Birmingham Conservatoire

Birmingham City University

This new £43m facility is the first complete new build Conservatoire in the UK since 1987, and provides state-of-the-art performance space and acoustical quality.

The new building is in the heart of the City’s learning quarter, which is also home to Birmingham City University’s City Centre Campus, the ThinkTank Museum, and the Birmingham Ormiston Academy.

EH Smith worked very closely with FCB, Galliford Try and Caxton Builders throughout the project. A range of bricks from different manufacturers were selected based on the aesthetic, technical and commercial requirements of the development. A number of special shaped bricks were required to achieve the projecting header details and geometry of the building.

The building has won a number of accolades including:

2018 RIBA National Award

2018 RIBA West Midlands Project of the Year

2018 RIBA West Midlands Award

2018 RICS West Midlands Project of the Year

2018 RICS West Midlands Design for Innovation Award
