This 11 storey housing scheme was built for the Metropolitan Housing Trust on a small plot in Hackney by Henry Construction. The scheme provides 32 high-quality new homes (50% affordable) with 10% wheelchair accessible apartments in a range of sizes.
EH Smith assisted FBM Architects in finding the right brick to provide warmth and texture as well as advise on the best way to achieve a number of special shaped brick including canted bricks to break up the mass and add texture to the ground floor, and 61° pistol soldier returns for the sharp angle at the corner facing the main road. A bespoke masonry support system was designed by our partners, IG Masonry Support to allow for the geometry, brickwork soffits and other design features.
