The regeneration of the Grahame park area of Colindale involves some 3,000 new homes over almost two decades of build programme. With approximately one third of the units being for affordable rent and or shared ownership, the project also includes as part of its design new shops, parks and community facilities to form part of the Hendon Village master plan.
With the designs numerous projecting balconies the use of a system that allows for these to match the surrounding traditionally laid brickwork whilst being as light as possible led the designers to use EH Smiths Fast Clad brick slip system which was used to clad the lightweight steel balconies, utilising the same Brick as the traditional masonry of the main structure through its ability to accommodate almost any type of Brick allowed for the seamless use of a modern method of construction whilst retaining the traditional appeal of solid brickwork.
