Lambeth Mission - EH Smith

Lambeth Mission

London

This new development for Citygrove Securities PLC comprises a 12-storey 137-bedroom hotel in addition to a separate community building and two residential apartments for the Methodist Church, which sit adjacent to the hotel.

Located on the corner of Lambeth Walk, close to Waterloo Station, the scheme involved the demolition of a 1950’s church complex and its wholesale replacement with a new build, mixed use development. The 12 storey hotel occupies a compact footprint with public spaces at basement and ground floor level. The new church includes a worship space, meeting and function rooms and a café at ground floor level and is characterised by a contemporary façade design containing multiple brick arches.

The arches were prefabricated offsite by our partners IG Masonry who introduced us to the project to source and supply the linear bricks required. The end result is a spectacular addition to the historic street which echoes traditional Ecclesiastical Architecture in a modern and contemporary way.
