The two five-storey buildings designed by architectural practice RHWL on behalf of Genr8 Developments for the new Stoke Central Business District (CBD) are a development of two Grade A offices which are to be occupied by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
This ambitions project is to deliver a state-of-the-art design that exceeds energy consumption reduction targets and achieves a BREEAM excellent rating, whist retaining the feel for the city’s rich history of ceramic production.
The project used a number of different finishes both in terms of colour and texture, including the use of Glazed and profiled Bricks, all of which were supplied as pre-formed slips to EIP who are part of the Laing O’Rourke group for them to pre manufacturer the whole building off site at their modern factory in Worksop, this was then transported to site and assembled to give you the appearance of traditionally laid Brickwork whilst embracing a modern method of offsite construction.
EH Smith worked with the Architect at the very early stages to propose various options to achieve the high standards required for the external façade all the way through to co-ordinating and supplying in excess of 250,000 slips for the off-site manufacture of the project.
