Ribs

Ribs is a collection of tiles that originates from the terracotta offcuts that accumulate within Fornace S.Anselmo’s production cycle for its iconic product SK1N, one of its most iconic lines. During its extrusion, each piece is supported by two small terracotta rods, which are removed after firing and ordinarily discarded. These are here recovered and transformed into the very core of the project. The terracotta offcuts are cut, realigned and assembled using a minimal amount of tone-on-tone pigmented cement, leaving the original material exposed, intact in its industrial evidence. Without further firing or transformation, the offcuts are recomposed into a surface where industrial logic is not erased, but made legible. Ribs builds a language of rhythm, repetition and exposed matter, where what is born as residue becomes structure.
