Fort Pitt Grammar School Science Centre - EH Smith

Fort Pitt Grammar School Science Centre

Chatham, Kent

HMY were appointed by Fort Pitt Academy in 2011 to carry out numerous projects on the site. HMY were instrumental in obtaining over £5.5m funding from EFA (Education Funding Agency) to carry out compliance upgrade works to the existing fabric and replace their existing dilapidated labs and create a new 6th form centre.

The school site is on a former fort and latterly a military hospital and fort site dating back to the Napoleonic Wars. There are two grade II listed buildings on the site and the entire school is designated an Ancient Monument.

EH Smith worked with HMY to detail and supply the terracotta façade. The Architectural rigour of the scheme is evident in the striking clean lines of the finished building.
